Simplicity
I realized something today. Everything is simple. It's just people that make things complicated. Sometimes people say things such as:
"Times were much simpler in the past."
"The longer I'm on this earth, the more complicated things get."
This isn't entirely true. I had a revelation that changed my whole thought process. Things don't have to be made complicated. Simplify things. You want to write a book? Make it less stressful on yourself by simplifying it. Want to write a song? Simplify it. People's lives have been complicated ever since people have existed. But wow, have we made it worse. We want the best of everything and to be the best that we sometimes get caught up in that vicious cycle of self-doubt. Maybe I'm rambling again, maybe not.
I was listening to the Anthology version of the Beatles song "Don't Pass Me By". I was riding into town with my cousins to get some Halloween decorations for a Halloween party (yes, in July). Watching houses go by and listening to the simpler version of that Beatles song made me think. I can change my life by doing one very simple thing: making things simple. Don't worry too much about things that aren't affecting your life at the moment. Of course, we need to plan ahead and think about circumstances that could happen. That's just a part of life. We have to do it. We don't have to get stressed out about it though.
Sometimes it's best to get by with just what we need. It helps us appreciate the smaller enjoyments and accomplishments. You accomplished very little today? That's great! That means that we are in the same boat. Sometimes though I think that the boat is not much more than a life raft and that life raft is little more than a plank floating in the sea. All the ocean things though. I watched Jaws for the first time last night. All dem sharks.
I've tried writing songs before without much success. Maybe I just can't do it, maybe I've set my expectations too high. Whatever. I don't really care. I guess what I'm trying to say is to just do things for the act of doing them, not for the outcome. Draw terrible drawings and sing badly. Do things for the enjoyment of the action.
But I don't know though. That's just what I think.
